On Saturday, October 11, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., an ammonia release occurred at the CVR Partners nitrogen fertilizer facility in Coffeyville, Kansas. Emergency services from Coffeyville and surrounding jurisdictions responded to the incident. Reports indicate that at least 15 individuals were exposed to the chemical and transported to area hospitals for medical evaluation. CVR Partners confirmed the release and stated that an investigation into the cause is underway. The CVR Coffeyville site includes a petroleum refinery and an adjacent nitrogen fertilizer plant, which is operated by CVR Partners. This fertilizer plant produces ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN).
